Keep Company at Juicy Wine Company
At Juicy Wine Company in River West, wine lovers browse through the retail space and select their preferred combinations of vintages and complements (pate, olives, and cheese). You can take these purchases home or head upstairs to the lounge. Here, hipsters gab in semicircular booths and small tables while a DJ spins on an elevated stage. Exposed brick with light wood and cork details complete the contemporary space (southeast of Soulistic Studio).
If you choose to sit a spell, the wine list is categorized quite neatly, separated by color and body. A few are available by the glass, but most come by the bottle anywhere from $30 to over $300 (plus a $15 corkage fee). Several artisan cheeses and meats are available to accompany your evening of sipping, served a la carte or in stylish platters, garnished with olives, nuts, and/or fruits. If you're looking for something heartier, stop by for their weekend 5-Buck Brunch, where the menu items include cooked-to-order omelets, fresh yogurt and homemade granola, and the odd but famous pairing of chicken & waffles. Enjoy Intelligentsia coffee or one of their $5 premium brunch cocktails.
Finally, the contemporary wine bar offers weekly events: Monday night is 'Havana Club,' and mojitos and Cuban sandwiches are just $5 all night long. Or if you're politically inclined, every Tuesday features the Obama Burger: Kobe beef topped with cheddar, hickory-smoked bacon, and caramelized onions served on marble rye. Pair it with an American wine; they're half price.
By combining both aspects, Juicy Wine Co. is a step above the typical wine retail store or wine bar. It can also be a fun place to bring a group of people or one special person in particular.
