Baskin-Robbins 31 Cent Scoop Night

Ice cream, we all scream for ice cream.' Baskin-Robbins will have their annual 31 cent scoop night on April 29th.' They will parnter with the National Volunteer Fire Council in Support of the National Junior Firefighter Program to bring you the very best in ice cream.' Participating Baskin-Robbins will celebrate from 5-10pm.

Because of the partnership, Baskin-Robbins will make a $100,000 donation tothe Junior Firefighter program which provides youth with resources to participate in a local junior firefighter program.' We all know that we should look for positive role models for our youth to emulate.'

Each scoop will be purchased for 31 cents up to three scoops.' It’s so good, but you knew you would have to stop some time.' It can be a great outing for the entire family.' Julianne Moore Book Signing

Looking for a fun activity to share with your children' Acclaimed actress and children’s book author Julianne Moore will be at Bloomingdale’s North Michigan for a reading and book signing of her new picture book “Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully” on Sunday May 3 at 3pm.

Ms Moore will read her book aloud to the crowd and engage in a question and answer session.' Along with the book reading, there will be fun activities and snacks making it a great afternoon for all who attend.' If you purchase $75 or more of Ralph Lauren children’s merchandise will receive a book for free.' In addition Ralph Lauren will donate 10% of all kids’ apparel sales for the day to Save the Children.

Chicago Earth Day 2009

Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22.' It is celebrated to create awareness and appreciation for the Earth.' Founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson, it is celebrated in the spring here and in the autumn of the southern hemisphere.' If you want to know how you can do more for the Earth and the environment, here are a few activities to get you started:

  • Earth Day Celebration and Organic Wine Tasting at WineStyles from 6-8pm.' WineStyles is located at 1741 Sherman Avenue.' Samples include organic wine and chocolates.' Tickets are $50 non-Salon members, $30 for Salon members for advanced purchase.
  • 5th Annual Earth Day Clean Up of the Ottawa Woods Forest Preserve Grove #3 and #4 April 25th beginning at Noon and ending around 4pm. You will get gloves, pic sticks and trash bags.' There will be free sub sandwiches and drinks along with free door prizes.' Contact (773)'767-2882.'
  • Free Family Earth Day Fair at Georgio’s Banquets'in Orland Park on April 26th from 1-4pm.' Get ready to receive lost of information about greener living.' There will be some demonstrations along with games and raffle prizes.
  • Celebrate Earth Day at the Lincoln park Zoo.' The 5th Annual Science Celebration is on April 22nd from 10am-noon. The Science celebration is hosted by the Women’s Board.' Studentw will present their science projects.
  • Loyola University’s'North Lake Shore Earth Day 2009 will be celelbrated on Saturday April 25th from 9am-4:30pm at the Quinlan Life Sciences Building on W Sheridan Road.' Learn about global climate change and tips on how to incorporate green living into your lifestyle.

Make plans to learn all you can about the Earth and help celebrate the day.' There is always much we can learn about conserving our resources and living a greener life.

Saturday Night Comedy

We all have hectics lives.' Some are more hectic than others and there are times when we are not able to really enjoy life.' Well tonight will be different.' Tonight it is time to kick back and have some fun.' When is the last time you laughed' Really laughed at a funny joke or story' It’s probably been a while.'

Join the Cornservatory for a show called Comedy after Curfew.' It is the best in Stand Up Comedy and it’s coming to the Cornservatory (I just love that name) which is at 4210 North Lincoln Avenue.' Tickets are only $10 and the show begins at 11pm.' It is also BYOB - Bring Your Own Beverage so get ready to have some adult sized fun with your beverage of choice.' In fact there is a Jewel right next door.

Laugh a little tonight.' Enjoy the show.

Let’s Play Railway

Are you looking for some fun things to do this weekend with your kids' Kohl Children’s Museum presents “Let’s Play Railway.”' It is a giant replica of BRIO’s wooden toy engine.' There are plenty of hands on activities for children and adults.' The exhibit encourages learning through make believe play as the children climb aboard this really cute train.

Within the train, kids will enjoy real levers and buttons they can push in the Engineer’s Cab.' The wagon portion of the train has a pretend pony and cow.' There are also wheel activites that are built in to the wheels on the train.' The museum also offers a fully operational kiddie train Tuesdays through Friday that the kids can actually ride on.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:30am-5pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm and Monday 9:30am-12pm.' Admission is free for members and children under 1.' Anyone over the age of 1 without a membership pays $7.50 to enter which is still a great price for the museum.' There is plenty to see there.

Cigar Tasting April 17th

Elmhurst Cigar House presents April’s Cigar Tasting.' This month’s tasting features Oliva Cigars.' The event is on April 17th from 6pm-9pm.' Stop in to enjoy a free Oliva Cigar, free food and prizes.'

Elmhurs has a smoking lounge that helps you relax and enjoy the fun experience of Cigar smoking.' The smoking lounge has cable tv,' leather couches, free Wi-Fi and also a playing card table.

Elmhurst Cigar House (which is EXEMPT from the smoke law)'is the first cigar shop in Elmhurst that features hand-rolled cigars.' They opened in 2003 and have great individual service.' You won’t find a discount type service here.

Mike Krzyzewski Book Signing

Mike Krzyzweski previous coach of Duke Blue Devil who won three NCAA Championships and twelve coach of the year awards will have a book signing on April 13th at Borders on State Street.' His mantra is I BELIEVE IN YOU which helps you show leadership whether you are a CEO, parent or a coach.' HIs books provide inspirational and leadership to all who read them.' The book signing begins at 12:30pm.

It’s best to be there early because there will probably be quite a few people there.

Chicago Family Events

The Gap is sponsoring family events on April 18th at the Gap on Michigan Avenue and April 19th at the Old Orchard Shopping Center.' They will have games and activities for the family with an appearance by Olivia the loveable piglet.' Olivia will be there from 12pm-2pm. and shoppers will enjoy a free gift if you spend over $50.

Bring the kids out to see Olivia who is the piglet character from Ian Falconer’s hit children’s books.

Parkinson’s Benefit April 17th

Enjoy a wonderful evening with the Parkinson’s Association of Illinois on April 17th at the Irish American Center on Knox at 7pm.' All proceeds will benefit the Parkinson’s Association of Illinois.' The cost is $50 per person or $75 a couple.' The benefit includes raffle prizes, casino games and a silent auction.

The PAIL or Parkinson’s Association of Illinois is a not for profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by Parkinson’s disease.
