FanDuel Sportsbook Overview
FanDuel is a US-based gambling company that was originally founded in 2009 as a daily fantasy sports provider. It is headquartered in New York City and, as the legality of online gambling changed in the U.S., it has since expanded its focus to an online and retail sportsbook and an online casino. The business is now formerly called the FanDuel Group, which reflects the merger between the original FanDuel company and the U.S. arm of Paddy Power Betfair, which is an Irish bookmaker that has since changed its name to Flutter Entertainment.
Membership to FanDuel is free and available throughout the U.S. Your singular FanDuel account provides you access to all of the products that FanDuel offers as long as they are legal in the state in which you are located at the time you access it. If you reside in Illinois, for instance, you could access the online FanDuel Sportsbook while at home but could not while visiting family in Missouri or traveling on business in Wisconsin.
FanDuel Sportsbook offers a wide range of bet types, including spread, moneyline, total, prop and parlay. Most events support all applicable bet types, so you can choose your preference. Bets can be placed in advance of games. In-game betting is also supported, and there is a wide range of options, including cashing out early and cutting your losses. Although FanDuel is a U.S.-centric sportsbook, its offerings are not limited to sports popular in the U.S. While MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA and NCAA are certainly emphasized, you can find soccer, rugby, cricket and practically any sports played anywhere in the world. Other markets popular with Americans include motor sports, boxing and MMA. FanDuel also offers non-sports markets, such as politics, awards shows and so forth.
FanDuel Sports is currently live in the following states:
• Maryland (retail only)
• New Jersey
• New York
• Washington (retail only)
• West Virginia
You may notice that there are states in which online sports betting is legal that is not included on the list. This is due to licensing challenges, and FanDuel Sportsbook is progressing to be licensed in Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon and Rhode Island.
FanDuel Sportsbook Promo Code Welcome Bonus
FanDuel offers a number of welcome bonuses for the different online products it has, such as DFS and casino games. You’re typically only allowed to claim one of them, so make sure that you select the FanDuel Sportsbook offer if that is where your focus lies.
FanDuel Sportsbook will match your first bet with a risk free bet of the same amount if you lose it, up to a maximum amount of $1,000. No promo code is required, you automatically qualify by clicking thru any of our links.
We think FanDuel Sportsbook has one of the best welcome offers available to U.S. sports bettors. It may not look as lucrative on paper as the DraftKings’ welcome bonus, but it actually is for the average bettor and much more convenient too. For those not familiar, DraftKings gives you a potential bonus amount and then doles it out $1 at time based on how much you spend.
FanDuel Sportsbook doesn’t do that. All it requires of you is that you place a bet of at least $5. In order to do that, you’ll need to create an account if you don’t have one yet and then make a minimum deposit, which is $10. Next, place your $5 or greater bet. There are no restrictions, such as the bet type or sport. If you lose your first bet, Fanduel Sportsbook will match that amount in the form of a free bet!
For example, if you placed your first wager for $200 and won, then you keep your winnings. If you lost that $200 bet, DraftKings Sportsbook will gift you $200 in free bets. You can use that bonus money however you choose. Place a single $200 bet or 200 $1 wagers if you’d like. There are no wagering requirements, and the bonus never expires. The main difference between a free bet and cash bet is that the free bet is not cashable. If you place a $10 bet that pays out $20, you’d actually get $30 back since that includes your cash down, but with a free bet, you’d just get the $20.
Other FanDuel Sportsbook Promotions
FanDuel Sportsbook routinely offers promotions to established members. These include reload bonuses in the form of free bets, risk-free bets, parlay protection and boosted odds. Often, these offers will coincide with sports that are popular in the U.S. Once the NFL season gets here, for example, there will be free bets and other opportunities for opening week, specials throughout the season and then additional specials for the playoffs and then the Super Bowl.
FanDuel Sportsbook App
There are a number of ways to access FanDuel, but the mobile app is by far the most popular. A dedicated app for Android devices is available through Google Play, and a dedicated app for iOS devices is available through the Apple Store. Once you install the app, tap the FanDuel icon to open it. If you already have an account, you can enter your login details. But if you do not yet have an account, you can use the app to create one, make a deposit, place your first bet and claim your free bets.
The Add Funds link at the top of the app will take you to the cashier. FanDuel has online banking integration with most of the major banks in the U.S. in addition to PayPal. This is a popular option for many bettors because it is convenient and has you set up for withdrawals as well. However, you can use all major credit and debit cards. Traditional wire transfers are an option. Gift cards and prepaid cards are available, and you make in-person deposits and withdrawals at a wide range of retail locations that have partnered with FanDuel.
The All Sports link at the top of the app provides you access to the available markets. The first option is Live Now, which filters the selection to live games that support live betting. The second option is Promo, which filters the available bets to those connected with current promotions. The third option is Boosts, which shows only the wagers available that have boosted or otherwise enhanced odds. From there, you’ll see all of the popular leagues and events, and you can scroll down even farther for a comprehensive list. Be sure to check in on the promotions once a day if you can since there are often lucrative offers available and many of them require you to opt in.
Notifications are enabled by default, but you will probably want to head into your settings and customize them. These alerts are useful to sports fans in general but a particularly powerful tool when it comes to early cash-outs and other in-play betting. FanDuel offers streaming as well. You don’t have to bet on a particular game to watch it, and FanDuel is currently streaming NHL, soccer and tennis. The sportsbook is also working to expand this feature of the app, so this is an area you’ll want to keep an eye on.
FanDuel Sportsbook in Illinois
Illinois passed laws that made online sports betting legal in 2019. FanDuel received its initial permit from the Illinois Gaming board in the second quarter of 2020. As is the case with many states that have legalized online sports betting, Illinois requires its licensed online sportsbook operators to be partnered with licensed gambling company with a physical presence in the state. FanDuel was originally partnered with Par-A-Dice Casino as a temporary measure so that it could begin offering services right away. It then transitioned to Fairmount Park racetrack by the end of the year once the track was licensed.
When the online gambling laws were established in Illinois in 2019, there was a requirement that you had to open your account—at FanDuel or any other online sportsbook—in person before you could use it online. That requirement, however, no longer exists. The IGB eased the requirement during the COVID-19 pandemic and then did away with entirely in March 2022. Nevertheless, there is still an oddity that distinguishes Illinois from many other states where online gambling is legal. In 2021, it passed a law that you could bet on Illinois-based college sports teams in retail locations but not online. So, if you want to bet on Notre Dame football online while at home in Chicago, you can’t do it, but if you happen to be travelling in Tennessee, for instance, then you would be able to place that bet.
