Disc Golf remains somewhat of a niche sport. It has definitely grown in popularity over the years and professional series do exist, but there is still a good amount of people who have never played it or don’t know much about it. Fortunately, for the people that do enjoy throwing a disc with precision– there are a decent amount of Chicago disc golf courses in the area. While there really are only 2 in the actual city, many other phenomenal disc golf courses can be played at within an hour or so of driving. You’ll find some of the best and most convenient courses below– however, Illinois has nearly 230 courses spread across the state!

Disc Golf Courses in Chicagoland

Illinois Institute of Technology Disc Golf Course
9 Hole
3300 S Federal St, Chicago, IL 60616
(312) 567-3000

This is one of the very few disc golf courses in Chicago. It is located on a college campus, so if you play during class hours you’ll be dodging students. This is best to check out on the weekends and when class isn’t in session. But, being located right in Chicago makes it very convenient.

North Shore Channel Disc Golf Course
9 Hole
McCormick Blvd at Northeast Parkway, Lincolnwood, IL 60712

Situated on a relatively narrow strip of park, North Shore Channel keeps it simple yet effective. The 9-holes are well placed, with the #5 hole requiring you to toss through a tree tunnel. The course is intertwined with the park, so expect other people to stroll across.
The course borders a waterway, which makes for a pleasant atmosphere.

Fairfield Park Disc Golf Course
18 Hole
350 N Fairfield Rd, Round Lake, IL 60073
(847) 546-8558

Fairfield Park is a very high quality course. With two courses, White and Gold, it welcomes beginners and pros alike. The White course is perfect for beginners to get the hang of things, or for the skilled to warm up before tackling the Gold course. The Gold will test your skills and can really punish you for poor shots. From wide open spaces to tight wooded quarters– you’ll have to pull out all of your tricks!
*Mosquitos can be gnarly out here– bring spray.

Katherine Legge Memorial Park Disc Golf Course
18 Hole
5901 S. County Line RoadStreet, Hinsdale, IL 60521

This course takes its surroundings into consideration. A beautiful course with enough tree coverage to make it interesting, elevation changes are frequent, and many of the holes have a water hazard. Fear not, the hazard is a small creek that is very easy to retrieve discs from. This course is very well maintained and of high-quality.
Dogs and people do frequent the park as well.

West Park Disc Golf Course
24 Holes
W Park Front St. and Ferris St, Joliet, IL 60436

West Park has a good variation of shot types. The first 12 are pretty wooded and technical, with the back 12 being relatively open and much more forgiving holes. The #2 hole is awesome, as you tee off from a cliff. Easy enough for beginners to seek pars, and challenging enough for experienced players to hunt for birdies.

The Oaks Disc Golf Course
27 Holes
20246 Schoolhouse Rd, Mokena, IL 60448

The Oaks is a course truly dedicated to disc golfers. This large 27 hole course mimics that of many actual golf courses, with long holes and mature trees creating a perimeter. While the terrain is more or less flat, they change it up with a nice mixture of tight tree shots and open shots. Well groomed, with benches and garbage cans spread throughout.

The Canyons Disc Golf Course
18 Holes
395 Dell Park Ave, Lockport, IL 60441

The Canyons is a gorgeous course, incorporating the natural trees and rock formations within the course to make even the walking portion enjoyable. You’ll find a variety of open and technical holes, with some tee boxes being situated on top of cliffs. With multiple tee layouts, all skill levels will feel at home here.

50-Acre Park Disc Golf Course
18 Holes
S Rockwell St, Evergreen Park, IL 60805
(708) 422-1551

50-Acre is perhaps the closet designated disc golf course to Chicago. If desired, you can probably take an UBER out here. The back portion of the course is pretty open, with few natural obstacles. There are some slight elevation changes and water hazards, but overall is a straightforward course. It’s a good spot to practice your variety of throws and get your style down. The course doesn’t drain water the best; if it’s been raining heavily you may want to go play somewhere else.

Lemon lake County Park Disc Golf Course
72 Holes
6322 West 133rd Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307
(219) 663-7627

Lemon Lake is a massive park spread over 400+ acres. This is home to 4 different 18 hole disc golf courses that are sectioned into Blue, Red, White and Gold / Silver. Blue is the most open and the easiest, with Gold / Silver proving to be the most challenging. There is a nice balance of obstacles within this very well groomed complex. There is a pro-shop on the premise as well if you need some new gear. This is a phenomenal spot to spend the entire day.

Summit Park Disc Golf Course
18 Holes
700 S Archer Rd, Summit, IL 60501
(708) 496-1012

Summit Park is perhaps the most difficult disc golf course in Chicagoland. Extremely tight fairways can knock down even the most skilled of players. However, it’ll really teach you a thing or two about your technical skills. Being that it is mostly shaded, it is a comfortable place to play, even on the hottest of summer days. Bring extra discs and more importantly, your sense of humor.

Edgebrook Disc Golf Course
18 Holes
6100 N Central Ave, Chicago, IL 60646
(773) 763-8320

Edgebrook plays much like an actual golf course– plus, you can rent golf carts to add to the experience. The majority of the holes are very wide open with scattered trees to offer minimal obstacles. You will also find some elevation change, along with a pond and creek to shake things up a little. With many of the holes mimicking each other, it can get repetitive. However, this is the perfect course to practice your long drives– it’s very forgiving.
