It’s Always Ladies’ Night at the Closet
If you are a woman who has made the courageous step of Coming Out of the closet, congratulations! You'll be getting a pamphlet and key chain in just a few weeks. And now, one Chicago bar (just north of Joy's Noodles) invites you to go right back in, as it is oddly named The Closet.
The first thing you'll notice about this (cash only) lesbian dive bar is its size. 'The Closet' may be the perfect name for this place, considering it's about the size of a closet. And yet, the place still manages to have a dance floor! A crowd of mostly women will groove to their favorites, even if there's not much room to do so.
Being fully honest, reviews and experiences here have been all over the map. People either love this place or avoid it with a passion. At its best, The Closet provides strong drinks, fun music, and 'interesting' videos. However, at its worst, the bartenders and staff can be a bit surly, the crowd doesn't always take kindly to non-regulars, and the beer selection is limited. Perhaps to make up for that selection, there are some great drink specials on Wednesdays and Fridays.
If you're comfortable and confident with yourself, you can probably withstand a few gruff glances. Be patient and respectful, and after a couple visits The Closet may feel more cozy than cramped.
