Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap

by Matt B on January 12th, 2008

I like spicy foods, but I can't handle nearly as much kick as some people can. If you're looking for a heat that you'll never forget, check out Jake Melnick's Corner Tap.

However, it may be just the place you need after a long day at work or at play. Rustic stone accents, dark wood features, and neon beer signs will have you feeling comfy and cozy in no time.

As expected, the menu is comprised mostly of bar food basics, including starters like spicy fried popcorn shrimp (served over freshly popped popcorn) and a huge mound of nachos topped with cheddar, salsa, green onions, sour cream, jalapenos, guacamole, and chili. Bring friends because there's plenty to go around. If you can make it through the gigantic portions of meatloaf, beef brisket, or skirt steak, I'll be impressed. And the burgers'served on toasted ciabatta bread, mixed with chopped red onion, and topped with cheddar cheese'are some of the best in town.

Melnick's gives you the option of having the wings coated in one of the world's hottest peppers, making it so hot, you will actually have to sign a waiver to eat them, agreeing not to sue for injuries. The Red Savina pepper has been selectively bred in California, and is 65 times hotter than your average jalapeno pepper. In fact, it held the Guinness World Record for hottest chili pepper in the world from 1994 until 2006. The hot hot hot wings will be served with an alarm bell for customers to summon waiters for help. Those who are brave enough to take the heat will get their picture on the wall and a huge heaping of respect.

Me? I think I'll stick to the chocolate chip cookie skillet sundae, thank you very much.

Haha, you’re a braver man than me. I wouldn’t even think of trying the wings.
