The Chicago Traveler

Fairmont Hotel

by Matt B on August 14th, 2007

Many people, upon first entering a hotel room, walk straight to the window to check out the view. However, at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, visitors may find themselves unable to take their eyes off their rooms.

Acquired by the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts corporation in 1987, the hotel is accented with gold and marble throughout its 37 stories, designed to pamper patrons with the ultimate in comfort and convenience. While the Fairmont is surrounded by office buildings, its location is only steps away from shopping along the Magnificent Mile, the Art Institute, the Field Museum, Navy Pier, Millennium Park, the Aon Center, the Blue Cross-Blue Shield Tower, and several other attractions.

The hotel offers a selection of 66 sophisticated suites and 692 elegantly luxurious guest rooms, most with incredible views of the city and/or Lake Michigan. The rooms are decorated in soft spring colors and feature spacious marble bathrooms with huge bathtubs. Speaking of bathtubs, the Fairmont actually features a Bath Sommelier who will prepare a fabulous bath treatment for you, complete with aromatic fragrances. It’s no wonder the Fairmont has had guests like President Jacques Chirac of France, Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton, Henry Kissinger, Elton John, Jane Seymour, and Ivana Trump.

The Fairmont Hotel also offers a variety of creative packages. Macy’s on State Street is the world’s second largest department store and is within walking distance from the hotel. Fairmont offers a shopping lover’s package which includes a Macy’s gift card, a Savings Pass which provides discounts throughout the store, and a late check-out for extra shopping time. Got a sweet tooth? Try the Ice Cream Lover’s deal: a one-on-one telephone consultation with the Chef, who will make you a pint of your very own ice cream creation.
