Le Bouchon Is Bucktown’s Best Bistro
On more than one occasion, I have heard Chicago compared to Paris, France. And why not? Paris is one of Chicago's international sister cities. With much respect for 'the City of Light,' Le Bouchon offers authentic and delicious French dishes in Bucktown.
With white curtains, tile flooring, and a beautiful mural over the bar, the charm of Paris comes alive in this small room (north of Grace). The tables are arranged close together, so be prepared for a bit of bustling. Also, a word of warning: the tables next to the front window might seem ideal, but they are near some powerful heaters, so you may want to avoid them in winter months.
Many of the patrons here are regulars, all fans of simple French classics. Joan Cusack is rumored to frequent Le Bouchon also, but I can't back that up. I would definitely recommend the saumon poche (salmon poached in white wine) and the onglet grill' (grilled hanger steak with red wine sauce). If you'd like something truly regional, try the escargots, cuisses de canard brais'es (braised duck leg), or bouillabaisse. Desserts are an absolute must. If you're going to get profiteroles anywhere, they should be as authentic and delectable as the ones served here. And the lemon tart is so well-liked, the restaurant often runs out before the evening is done.
Mondays and Tuesdays are especially popular due to their specials. Every Monday, bottles of wine are offered for half price, and on Tuesdays, the prix-fixe lets you choose any starter, entr'e, and dessert for only $25.
Le Bouchon may just be the best way to cap off a romantic evening.
