Marion Street Market, located at 100 South Marion St., has been a culinary staple in the Oak Park community since 2008. The restaurant closed on New Year’s Day and reopened today, March 7, boasting a new social atmosphere with tasting tables, grab-and-go items and intricate dining and drink menus with a sizable emphasis on local purveyors and farmers.

Walking inside the new Marion Street Market is an eye-opening experience with reclaimed wood flooring, rustic tabletops and contemporary details. An upgraded ventilation system and soon to be installed gas utilities have opened up the creative menu offerings and expanded the palette of ingredients and cooking techniques. Diners can continue to enjoy Marion Street Market’s signature charm from live music to al fresco dining.

Transitioning to majority owner and operator is Grant Slauterbeck, formerly with One North Kitchen & Bar, Keefers, D.O.C. Wine Bar, Glenview House and The Iron Horse Hotel; today he is the CEO of GCC Chicagoland. Grant comments, “I couldn’t be more excited to take this restaurant to the next level and I’m honored to continue the legacy of quality established by Mary Jo Schuler. The Oak Park community has been nothing but supportive and we are thrilled to re-open with a taste of something for everyone.”

The Market

The daylight hours now feature grab-and-go items such as healthy wraps and salads, house made pastries and drinks from the Espresso Bar. In the very near future, grab-and-go items give way to hearty options in the evenings such as rotisserie chicken and duck meatloaf serving two to four people. The contemporary wine bar and two rustic tasting tables, seat 6-18 guests, and welcome visitors to interact with Marion Street Market’s wine and beer experts, headed by GCC Chicagoland Beverage Manager Adrian Marquis, as well as cheesemongers and fellow patrons. Market-goers can also visit the vast cheese and charcuterie case to taste these goods with on-hand experts and share their favorites amongst other guests.

Eatery

In collaboration with Slauterbeck, Chef de Cuisines Bret Bohning and Onam Luvianos will stay true to Oak Park residents’ favorite dishes while they’ve added healthful options and new high-quality culinary creations such as prime steaks to the menu. The chefs will continue to use ingredients and produce across the menu from neighboring farms including Urban Till, Nichols Farm, Swan Creek and many more.

The Bar

Both the Market and Eatery are shaking up the cocktail scene with more eclectic compositions featuring spirits that are responsibly produced. A rotating draft cocktail is available starring a local Chicago distillery. The new, internationally flavored wine list offers three-ounce, six-ounce and bottle-pour options along with build-your-own flights to keep guests tasting and sharing. Craft beer will continue to be a focus with a handful of drafts plus the entire retail inventory in the Market is available for consumption in the Eatery. A variety of house-made sodas with savory, sweet and spicy flavors are offered to add to any spirit or sip as is.
