Kleiner Does It Again at Park 52
Jerry Kleiner, owner of Carnivale, has opened yet another restaurant with larger-than-life d'cor. Massive lighting fixtures, vibrant colors, and polka-dot chairs accentuate Hyde Park's latest bistro, Park 52. Fortunately, the flavors are just as big as the color spectrum here.
The menu is full of classic American dishes: glazed salmon, herb-roasted half-chicken, 16-oz bone-in ribeye, 14-oz New York strip, barbecue-braised beef short rib, etc. The food is a little on the pricey side, but well worth it. For example, the half-pound burgers are $12 but that includes fries and anything you pile on top of it. Additionally, many of the ingredients of the stylish dishes come straight from the neighboring Farmer's Market.
The new restaurant is the first of its kind in the area, so the clientele usually consists of local foodies along with students from nearby University of Chicago. Reservations are recommended, but seats are available at the bar if a table isn't readily available.
