Come Full Circle at Navy Pier’s Ferris Wheel
While I mentioned this attraction in my post on Navy Pier, the Ferris Wheel is so big, it deserves a blog entry of its own. It stands 150 feet tall (46 m) and is modeled after the very first Ferris wheel, built for the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. Open year-round (weather permitting), folks can climb into one of the 40 gondolas for a seven-minute ride that provides great views of Chicago's skyline and Lake Michigan. Go during the day, and you can see cars and boats for miles. Cuddle up with your date during a sunset trip around the Wheel. Or sit among the thousands of sparkling lights in the evening hours.
While we locals may take the Ferris Wheel for granted, it's something everyone (both residents and tourists) should visit at least once.
