Weekend Stuff

When it comes to these weekend info posts, I usually try to feature large fairs and festivals while giving a quick mention to other smaller ones. Well, this weekend, there is a little school holding a little festival in Ukrainian Village, which probably wouldn’t register on the radar of most folks outside the neighborhood. So […]

Gino’s East

In 1966, two cab drivers and their friend were sick and tired of putting up with Chicago’s rush hour traffic, so they decided to get out of the taxi business and open a pizzeria. Now, over 40 years later, Gino’s East is a legend in Chicago, attracting locals and tourists alike.

Pop culture and fairy tales collide in a new comedy by Jim Lasko called The Princess Club. Showing at the Redmoon, four underdressed princesses who have been raised on nothing but tales of Cinderella and Snow White are suddenly faced with the sexy, scandalous stories of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Weekend Festivals

Being Mexican-American, I can’t help but be excited about this coming weekend. This Sunday is Mexican Independence Day, celebrating Mexico’s victory in the armed conflict between the people of Mexico and Spanish colonial authorities, which started in 1810. A huge and colorful celebration parade will be held on Sunday on 26th Street, as over half […]
