New Area Code

by Matt B on October 9th, 2007

Chicagoans will now have a new area code to add to the mix, giving us nine in all.

The 630 area code of the western suburbs has exhausted its supply of available numbers, so residents in the area who need a new phone number will be issued a 331 area code. Current 630 area code numbers will not be affected.

Area codes in Chicago include:

  • 312 (downtown)
  • 773 (everywhere else within city limits)
  • 847 (north and northwest suburbs)
  • 224 (north and northwest suburbs)
  • 630 (western suburbs)
  • 331 (western suburbs)
  • 708 (near west and south suburbs)
  • 815 (far northwest and far southwest suburbs)
  • 779 (far northwest and far southwest suburbs)

A map of Chicago's area codes is available here.
