The Columbia College campus in the Loop and South Loop is composed of several buildings, many of which were built in the early 1900s.

One of these buildings includes the South Michigan Campus, built by Christian A. Eckstorm (the same man responsible for the Alexandroff Campus Center) in 1908. Originally an eight-story building, it housed the Chicago Musical College. It is an example of neoclassical style, faced with limestone on the first two floors and red brick with white terra cotta on most of the rest; the top two floors are fronted by spaced limestone columns. The building has retained its striking marble and brass lobby to this day.

Columbia College acquired the structure in 1990, and it now houses a five-story library, classrooms, departmental offices, student and faculty lounges, and the college's bookstore.
