The Chicago Traveler

I’ve mentioned before how small bits of Paris occasionally pop up here in Chicago. This includes the entrance to the Metra Van Buren Street Station on Michigan Avenue (across from the Auditorium Building). It is a replica of a Paris subway entrance designed by Hector Guimard. The entrance was given to Chicago by the city of Paris in 2001.

Today, the United States remembers those who were lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In honor of the victims and their families, the Joffrey Ballet will present an evening of classical, historical, and contemporary performances. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and the seating bowl will open one hour and a half before show time. Free and open to the public, the presentation will be an unforgettable dedication.

While Chicago’s architecture is incredible in terms of shapes and sizes, it doesn’t always offer much in the way of color. Most of these giants of steel and glass are some shade of black or gray. Standing out from the crowd in a unique red dress is the CNA Plaza.

While the building only stands 44 stories tall at 601 feet high (183 m), it takes on a prominent role in Chicago’s skyline. And in case you’re wondering, the 1972 structure also has a red interior as well, including the columns and lobby escalators.
