Halloween-inspired tap takeover with Durango, Colorado’s Ska Brewing Company

Mac’s Wood Grilled hosts Skalloween, a Halloween-inspired tap takeover featuring five Ska brews, including the new-to-Chicago Steel Toe Stout, a traditional English Cream Stout brewed with milk sugar; the seasonal Autumnal Mole Stout, which is brewed with peppers, cocoa nibs and spices; Decadent Imperial IPA, a double IPA from the brewery’s Robust Reincarnation series; Modus Mandarina, which is dry hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops and rests on sweet orange peels; and True Blonde golden wheat ale, which is brewed with Durango-made honey.

In addition to the Ska beers, the bar will be decked in Halloween theme, including Ska skeletons, and the bar’s playlist for the event includes Skalloween music. The brewery provides gear giveaways, including wearables, headless horseman Skalloween glassesand Ska skeleton masks.

The beers will be tapped at 4 p.m. and the Ska crew will be in-house from 7-10 p.m. There is no cover charge to attend and beers range from $5-$7 each.


FEATURED BEERS/TASTING NOTES

Autumnal Molé Stout, Seasonal, 5.8% ABV
This brew is inspired by the Mexican and New Mexican cuisine that is popular in Southern Colorado (the brewery is located in Durango, Colorado).  The seasonal stout is brewed with cocoa nibs, spices and three varieties of peppers: Ancho, Guajillo and New Mexican Hatch green chilies. The stout has aromas of peppers with flavors of chocolate, cinnamon, cumin and cloves. Complex with subtle heat and residual sweetness.

Steel Toe Stout, Year-Round, 5.5% ABV
This year-round brew just debuted in the Chicago market. Traditional English cream stout brewed with milk sugar to create a creamy and sweet beer. Flavors of coffee and sugar with a touch of cream.

Decadent Imperial IPA, Robust Reincarnation Series, 10% ABV
Citrus aromas with big flavors of fresh hops and caramel malts. Flavors of bitter grapefruit with caramel-like sweetness and hoppy bitterness throughout.

Modus Mandarina, India Pale Ale, Year-Round, 6.8% ABV
A twist on the brewery’s flagship IPA, Modus Hoperandi. Modus Mandarina is dry hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops and rests on sweet orange peels.

True Blonde, Golden Wheat Ale, Year-Round, 5.2% ABV
Medium-bodied blonde golden wheat ale brewed with honey from Durango, Colorado’s Honeyville. Thirst quenching, crisp and food friendly.
