525 West Monroe
Chicago’s downtown area is full of tall, cubic office buildings. However, the structure at 525 West Monroe helps break some of that monotony. Right across the street from the Heller International Building and completed in 1983, this 25-story skyscraper bears a four-story atrium lobby which is enclosed by a sloped curve of glass. The north-facing rooflines are sloped, and the building itself has a unique Z-shape, looking like it came right out of a Nintendo video game. Even the windows play an important part of the overall look, outlined in white aluminum and arranged in an eye-catching pattern.
