The Chicago Traveler

Myron and Phil’s

by Matt B on June 19th, 2007

Even though Chicago has steakhouses by the dozen, Myron & Phil’s has a quality and flavor that turns its customers into weekly regulars. It is a family-owned, third-generation business with an extensive menu of chicken, seafood, and steaks. Owner Mark Freedman believes that while many other restaurants produce pretty dishes that you may want to take a picture of, his kitchen turns out dishes you just want to eat.

london broilThis old-school steakhouse maintains its classic look with black-leather seats and dark-wood walls, providing an intimate, past-era atmosphere and attracting a mature clientele. The meals even start off with classic relishes: a tray of veggies, pickled tomatoes, and crackers with a chicken-liver spread. Favorites on the menu include the chicken livers with mushrooms and onions, a London broil with bordelaise sauce, and the trio filet, with each filet covered with a different, flavorful crust. All steaks, cutlets, and filets can be prepared with a number of sauces and crusts and are served with salad and melt-in-your-mouth potatoes.

There is also a lively piano bar, where people gather for drinks, finger foods, music, and fun. There is live entertainment (from the Kuzzins and Sami Scot) every Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m., and a Karaoke night (usually taking place on the last Wednesday of the month) that draws in a younger crowd.
