Jamie Lidell in Chicago

Jamie Lidell in Chicago

Even if you’ve never heard of the name Jamie Lidell, you’ve probably heard his music. His song “Multiply” was used on the TV show Grey’s Anatomy, and his song “A Little Bit More” was featured in a series of Target commercials. His retro, experimental styles are back in his new album Jim, but his sounds are even funkier and more polished. He’ll be at the Metro on Wednesday, October 8. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 12 noon CDT.

Even though The Chicago Traveler is only a few months old, let’s take a look back at the ten most popular articles of this year.
10. Abegweit. Resting peacefully on Lake Michigan, this beautiful ship was once the most powerful icebreaker in the world.
9. Let’s Boogie Records & Tapes. This music store on the …read more

Relax Lounge

Relax Lounge

Your boss has been in your face. Your mother-in-law is on your back. Traffic’s moved at a snail’s pace all week, but life won’t slow down. “Stress” doesn’t even begin to describe your days.
Relax Lounge in Wicker Park may cure what ails you. Just look for the neon green cross out front and the candles flickering in beakers inside. Lounge seating is surrounded by vintage wallpaper and warm wood details, and a 30-foot bar is lit up by an old-fashioned sign that reads “Prescriptions.”

Hideout

Hideout

When I was a little kid, I had my own “secret” space where I felt safe and where I thought no one would find me unless I wanted them to. The Hideout is appropriately named; it’s a spot where you can be among friends and listen to great music, and people not in the know will have a heck of a time finding you.
In fact, the first time I was brought here, I was so turned around, there’s no way I would’ve been able to explain to anyone where I was. A couple of young patrons on cell phones stood …read more
