Taxi Surcharge Passed
If you plan on taking a taxi anywhere in Chicago this summer, you’ll be paying a bit more than usual. Especially if gas prices continue to rise.
On Wednesday, City Council unanimously approved an unprecedented cabfare surcharge that is dependent upon the price fluctuations at the gas pumps. The surcharge takes effect on April 28, requiring passengers to pay an extra 50 cents whenever gas prices are over $2.70 a gallon for seven straight days, and an extra $1 whenever the price exceeds $3.20 a gallon.
