Set Your Date on Firefly

With low lighting, a handful of booths and tables, and a reasonably priced wine bar, Firefly is the perfect setting for an intimate date.

fireflyThis Lakeview space with red walls and comfy booths has a seductive, sultry atmosphere that appeals to couples of all kinds. Located near the bars and clubs of the Boystown Halsted strip (just a couple doors south of Sidetrack), Firefly gets fairly crowded with both hetero and same-sex couples and has a long wait list on weekends, so you may have a better chance at nabbing a table during the week.

The French menu’s appetizers include standouts like duck spring rolls with a ginger-soy glaze and sautéed scallops with creamy polenta. For entrées, the pan-seared tilapia is tender, flavorful, and served with sugar snap peas and basil mashed potatoes. Try the 9-oz strip steak with pomme frites or the sinful bacon-wrapped filet mignon. Finally, if you can, don’t pass up the martini list, which has over a dozen specialty concoctions served strong in oversized glasses.

Some people are put off by the menu’s high prices, but considering its location, ambience, and quality, it’s worth the impression it will make on your dining companion.
