Pie

I admit it. I’m completely unAmerican. I can’t play baseball very well. Not even the Nintendo Wii version! And… I don’t like apple pie. I know. I know. I can hear your gasps of shock from here. But it’s true. It just doesn’t taste anything like apples to me. But don’t fret. I do like Pie, a downtown store that offers the some of the best-tasting desserts you’ll ever experience.

apple pieWhen I think of good pie, I often envision a loving grandmother in her country kitchen with a cute apron on. But where do you go for that homemade taste and texture in the big city? Here’s where Pie comes into play. Set up behind Epoch Floral Home & Event (the floral design studio owned by two of Pie’s investors), the store is bright and colorful, just like its tempting treasures. Apple pear cranberry, banana cream, classic apple, maple pecan, peanut butter, sweet potato… each and every pie is handmade with fresh, natural ingredients. So remember, if a fruit’s out of season, so is the pie.

Pies are about 10 inches (25 cm) across and serve 6-8 slices, depending on how much you like to serve at a time. You can also buy them by the slice or try one of their 4-inch (10 cm) mini-pies. Or get one frozen so you can bake it later and fill your home with that wonderful aroma.

It’s the best thing since sliced pie.

I’m with you – not crazy about apple pie either. There’s something about the cooked apples that really don’t appeal to me.

I can make a mean pie on my own, but I need to see if I can find a good pie shop around here for when I don’t feel like slaving over one!

Sadly, it looks like Epoch Pies is closed down. I visited back in 2007 while visiting Chicago and loved the place. But, their website is down and the phone number is disconnected. The Yelp review also indicates that the lights are out. If I’m wrong, please let me know!
