Honey 1 BBQ

I don’t need a lot of artistic foods on fancy plates to be happy. Sometimes, all I crave is a big helping of barbecued meat. Sometimes, all I need is Honey 1 BBQ.

The best kind of rib is one which you have to actually tug or eat off the bone, rather than falling off the bone, because that’s a sign of good slow-cooking. (“Fall-off-the-bone” is usually a result of boiling or steaming.) Chef and owner Robert Adams, Sr., smokes the ribs over cherry, hickory, and oak for about three hours. And the incredible flavor is a testament to just how much he loves his job.

Mind you, no one’s here for the décor or the ambiance. They’re here for the traditional southern barbecue that Adams mastered while growing up in Arkansas. Order up a half-slab (with white bread, fries, and coleslaw), slather on some of the addictive sauce, and enjoy pork at its finest. The tender pulled pork is full of smoky flavor. Honey 1 BBQ also offers up chicken and fish dinners, but here’s some advice: If you’re eating at an establishment where the word “BBQ” is on the front door, order the barbecue. The fried chicken and fish will most certainly not be as impressive.

Finally, the establishment is BYOB, so feel free to stop along the way for a couple brews to go with your BBQs.
