333 Wacker Drive
One of Chicago’s architectural “celebrities” is 333 Wacker Drive, with its blue-green curve of glass that follows the bend of the Chicago River as it splits into its North and South branches. Located on what is possibly the only triangular site in the city’s urban grid, this building was featured in posters for the film The Truman Show and “starred” in the film Ferris Beuller’s Day Off as the office of the main character’s father.
With only 36 floors, this structure certainly isn’t among the tallest, but it is definitely one of the most noticeable. It was the first skyscraper designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Architects, who went on to become one of the world’s best known designers. It is no surprise then that 333 was voted “Favorite Building” by readers of the Chicago Tribune in 1995.
